Direko was born on the 3'th of September 1956 in Mooiplaas, Limpopo. She completed her high school education at Alexandra High School.

In 1975 Fregitah was employed at Bathabile Primary as a private teacher. She also taught at Paradise Bend Primary School from 1977-1984. While working she studied with the University of South Africa (UNISA) and became a qualified teacher. In 2''2 she was employed to teach at Unity College a school for children with physical and intellectual disabilities as well as special needs, including chronic illness. She retired in June 2'19.
